 R-E-D  FOR PENTECOST

CONFIRMATION:  JUNE 28

Pentecost this year is Sunday, May 31.  This is the day we celebrate when the Holy Spirit came to earth as the disciples were gathered behind closed doors.

R-E-D is the color of the day and in order to make our celebration special, we are requesting that everyone wear RED and if you desire...bring a potted red geranium to decorate the sanctuary.  There will be many special delights in worship on Pentecost so don’t miss it!

May is such a happy month!  The cold days of winter are finally past and the time of singing birds has come.  Leaves pop almost overnight and all that was brown and dull suddenly shines with GREEN!  “Schön grün” were the first two words I learned to speak in Germany when I arrived to join Mike who was serving as an officer with the U. S. Army in Zweibruchen.  “Schön grün” means beautiful green! Just saying the words you can almost feel the weather….

The sunshine of bright blue skies and the green delight of longer days just fills our hearts with joy, yes? Living here in New England, we have all been waiting excitedly for Spring!  The yellow daffodils and pink and white flowering trees send our spirits twittering like birds, bees and bunnies.  Spring has been a long time coming and, like all good things, has definitely been worth the wait.

This Lenten season of Sundays, Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday here and Community Good Friday at Christ Episcopal Church has been very meaningful as we made the journey with Jesus from the last supper, to the cross, and then on to Resurrection.  On Easter morning, there were three services starting with 6:00 AM at Booth Park.  Brrr, it was cold but pretty!  Our Easter sanctuary was magnificent with the traditional lily cross and lilies everywhere, dazzling music at 8:30 AM with flutist Corrie Hughes, the Choir, and Music Minister Susan and then at 10:00 AM with pianist Tom Buckley, trumpeter  Daniel Jocis, our Choir and the Children’s Choir!  Easter was BOUNTIFUL and BEAUTIFUL in all ways!  A special thank you to Susan Bryn Kapec for making music and coordinating all the music and to the Deacons for decorating so well and Gail Holub who kept track of the lily count.  With Easter tide, we’re extending  and celebrating Easter right up to Mother’s Day!

My installations service as minister and teacher of Lordship Community Church occurred on Saturday,  April 18 and it was a fantastic event.  “Kapela,” which is Susan’s contemporary praise group, made their debut and provided an inviting musical opening and closing.  Our choir sang well, and members of the Search Committee including Fred Biebel, Bob Sammis, Debbie Cronk and Mary Scruggs, as well as, moderator Dave Healing, took part.  The Fairfield East Association of the CT UCC was represented by Rev. Cynthia Robinson and the charge sermon was given by dynamic CT Conference Minister for Youth and Young Adults Da Vita McAlister who compared a new minister to the TV show “Extreme Makeover.

The service was matched by the abundant and delicious catered dinner which featured roast beef and gravy, chicken marsala, stuffed sole, green been almondine and browned potatoes.  Church members provided desserts and Debbie Cronk made the table centerpieces.  Delicious food, delightful company!

What a festival was Easter!  What an installation we shared!  What a feast we devoured!  What a church we honor!  What a God we serve!

Now, it’s May and the time has come to celebrate mothers, grandmothers, women in general and, most of all, our Lord Jesus Christ who lives and frees us so that we can love and be loved!  Please know how blessed both Mike and I (now, officially) are to be here ministering with you and also know how very tickled I am each and every time I see you worshiping our mighty God with me in church on Sunday,

music notesMusical Notes...

Easter, both spiritually and seasonally, is a celebration of new life.  At Lordship Community Church we are seeing a birth of new ideas, which brings us new life.  Music plays a large role in worship.  It gives the congregation an opportunity to express your love for God, as well as sharing your musical talents with all.  We place a big emphasis on young people, families, those that live alone in all aspects of church life - music, education and socially.

How is the music department reaching out?  A gift has been given to us for the purchase of small handbells.  The youth will soon have the opportunity of being able to learn how to play and serve in yet another new ministry.  The youth choir will have another opportunity of singing on Mother’s Day/Music Sunday.

The adult choir is growing.  We are still looking for more singers.  We meet every Sunday morning at 8:30 AM sharp. Come and bring your coffee. We are very excited about a new anthem we will be singing on Mother’s Day as well.

We’ll also have the great opportunity of having the Christian Band, ‘Kapela’ join us on Mother’s Day.  It is made up of 6 excited young older folks that just love getting together every week.  Guess which member of Lordship plays in this group???

He is Risen!

Susan Bryn Kapec

Your food Donations needed!

cans of tomato

With the economy in near crisis state, the South end community center is asking for more food donations; as the number of families seeking aid increases.  Especially needed are cereal, soup, spaghetti sauce, coffee, juices (but not grapefruit), tuna fish and other canned meat.

South end community Center has more than 200 families seeking help, and more are coming each week.

If you prefer to give money instead of food, the center will use it to buy groceries at the area food banks.

It is always time to count our blessings and share what God has given us with others.
Please help in whatever way you are able.
