 PRAYERFUL THOUGHT OF THE MONTH
From MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST
by Oswald Chambers, July 5
God seems to have a delightful way of upsetting the things we have calculated on without taking God into account. We get into circumstances which were not chosen by God, and suddenly we find we have been calculating without God; God has not entered in as a living factor. The one thing that keeps us from the possibility of worrying is bringing God in as the greatest factor in all our calculations.
In our religion it is customary to put God first, but we are apt to think it is an impertinence to put God first in the practical issues of our lives. If we imagine we have to put on our Sunday moods before we come near to God, we will never come near God. We must come as we are.

SOUNDINGS by Rev. Mary Snell Willis

September is a reaallly big month of transitions. We go from celebrating life outdoors with sea and sky, friends and family, living more casually and more spontaneously, to living indoors, closed up with a world largely designed by electronic media where life becomes more artificial and others are telling ushow to see and to be. Instead of experiencing the beauty of nature and the changing weather, we just look outdoors, through the windows, or into our electronic screens where we can still see truth and beauty-but it takes more care and time to find it.
September means change. A new school year begins, as well as, a new church year, and also a new year of TV programming. Some will miss favorite shows that were not renewed and others will anticipate new series with uncertain ups and downs. Some economic experts say we are heading out of our deep recession and others aren't so sure we've hit the bottom. Yet, the future is here--although what it will bring is not so clear. So we pray and put the future in God's hands.
Clouds are like that, too. We look up and we aren't sure what the weather is going to do next. Cumulus clouds are white, big and billowy and how we love to fly through them, wishing we could open our airplane windows and just reach out to touch them. Those big white puffs can mean fair weather ahead or showery. Cirrus clouds can portend fair, while stratus clouds mean light rain or drizzle. Sometimes all these different kinds of clouds come in one day here by the sea!
Life can be cloudy, too. What do you see in your own clouds that rise above your life? The Bible tells us that clouds are always connected with God. Our "clouds" are those things in life that we can't control: a job lay-off or loss, a marriage unraveling, investments diminishing in value, children misbehaving, serious accident or illness suddenly occurring, losing a relative or friend to death. When we are hurting, we find small comfort in knowing that other people are going through the same kinds of "clouds." Yet, the clouds that bring change, can also bring possibilities. Could it be that God is speaking to us in these changing and unsettling "clouds" in our life?
I wonder if we could begin to see "clouds" as opportunities to connect or reconnect with God? Clouds call us back with an insistence to return to God. God uses the clouds of life to remind us that only God is our rock and our redeemer. No matter how dark the skies of our life become or how hard it is to see God moving in our midst, God is still there with us, abiding always and forever. God uses the clouds and challenges of life to simplify our belief system and force us to concentrate more on what really matters in life.
In his book, MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST, Oswald Chambers writes "There is a connection between the strange providences of God and what we know of Him, and we have to learn to interpret the mysteries of life in the light of our knowledge of God...God cannot come near without clouds, He does not come in clear shining."
As we start another exciting year of life together in the church starting with Rally Day September 13, let's use this year to BECOME MORE than before! To do this, we each will need to grow deeper in our spirit. We each can start where we're comfortable: worshipping together more or praying together more or studying together more or serving together more...Wherever we start, if we ask God to help us do it, we will grow together more in love-for God, for Lordship Community Church, for each other! As we become more intentional about growing our spirits, we become more open and daring to dwell in the mysteries of life, always looking for God carefully in the "clouds" that God sends to us in order to draw us more closely to Godself. That's a whole lot of BECOMING MORE yet it begins simply with an intention, a prayer to God, and a willing spirit.
This summer I trust you've packed in a lot of special memories along with some "Son shine." As I begin my second year ministering with you, please know how happy I am to be your pastor and how much it warms my heart to see you in church each Sunday as we glorify God while growing in faith, hope and love together! A special "shout out" goes to those of you who took time away from your busy summer with family activities to come and meet members of Mike's and my family, welcoming Melinda & Hannah Hosford from OH, Marya, Jonah & Leila Glowka from FL to LCC on August 2!
Joy in the journey we share and God's blessings always, Rev. Mary

 Music is on the Move!
In September, the choir and the Music & Worship Committee have decided to change the day and time of our choir rehearsals. This way, we can open the flood-gates for all of you who just can't seem to get up early on a Sunday morning for an 8:30 a.m. rehearsal.
Starting September 17th, Choir Rehearsals will be at 7:00 p.m., Thursday evenings.
We will be starting all new music. Rehearsals are open to anyone who can come regularly. No need to read music. It is a GREAT group.
Come and bring your laughter. Come and bring your heart. Come and be willing to make good friendship. And, learn a new way to serve and minister at Lordship Community Church!

This showcase of local teen bands featured several groups and at least one acoustic performance. The event was open to all ages, especially teens, and parents were welcome. There was a $5.00 admission fee at the door, with a portion of each admission donated to Lordship Community Church.
The event was staged by Erix Macuch and took place downstairs in the Social Hall. The music was great and it was a wonderful display of young, local talent. A big thanks goes to Erix Macuch for all of his hard work!
